About Jaimie Cahlil
The Artist Behind the Art
Soulful art comes from deep being, collective unconscious, and beyond. So, here I am: art-maker behind the art.
Surrounded by art books, age six I asked my dad, “Will you teach me to draw?” He said, “I can’t teach you, but I will guide you.” And he did. Then, with six-pence-a-week pocket money, I saved for five weeks for a box of 12 Rowney colour pencils. When teachers at school identified me as an ‘artist’, I discovered how well this identity freed me – coming, as I did, from a background likewise ‘different’ – as artists are ‘allowed’ to be ‘different’!
My father-and-friend, having previously attended Oxford University’s Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, encouraged me with my art. Later, accepted (at 16) for ‘the Ruskin’ myself (on the strength of my drawings alone), my training (1972-1975) completed with distinction in artists’ human anatomy.
My art has since evolved… through atmospheric landscapes and soulful portraits… to the intuitive transformative work you see here today.
